Monthlyinspo - Round 14: Film Noir
Hello, dears! How is it going?
I'm realizing this is my first (icon) post of the year, though I have made several graphics for various icontests but I haven't yet posted them here: I hope I'll remember to post them asap!
This is my first entry for monthlyinspo. Man, I love this community, it's so inspiring! But I usually don't have enough time anymore to make lots of icons for communities so it's hard I can manage to do something for this beautiful and inspiring community. I really can't explain why it's so hard to make lots of icons nowadays, I used to make even 40 icons in a day and now I can manage to finish a maximum of 5 graphics per day: it's very strange!
Anyway, going back to this challenge, it was about noir inspirations, so I decided to make not only icons inspired by noir films in techniques, but I chose pictures that reminded me of this genre, like photoshoots and screencaps from noir-ish productions. I tried my best to not make them all in chiaroscuro - it's like my favourite technique EVER - and I'm aware that some of them aren't very good, but I put all my efforts here and, as I said, some of them were really rushed because time is ticking! Anyway, hope you like them and that the overall result isn't that bad!
Enjoy!

What a fantastic set for the theme, and a great first entry at monthlyinspo! Ugh I totally hear you about the time... 5 graphics in a day is still pretty good imo! I can only do that if I literally take the whole day for icons, otherwise it's more like... 3 on a good day .__. But I really hope you'll find some time to enter other rounds as well because this set is magnificent!!

There's a strong noir vibe in all these, and I like that you're one of the few participants who made the counterintuitive, risky choice to use extra vibrant colors in some of these. The neons in 11-13 look stunning and the texture work and cap choices still keep them distinctly in the noir realm! I particularly love the animated sparkles in 11 and the composition/texture use in 12.

Also wooow at the shadows and lighting in 4-8. They all have incredible depth. Also I love the entire look on 6 so much, especially the animated smoke and the obscuring hat. Perfect noir icon is perfect. I also love the grittiness and animation in 20.
Last but not least I truly adore 9, the vintage-style coloring looks stellar and the texture gives it a really great composition.

Awesome work with this set, I could never tell you had to make some of them fast!

This comment is just precious!!! THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH for all your kind words and appreciation! ♥

I'm so relieved that you relate about the time in making icons! I agree with you: 5 is my maximum and, as you said, I have to dedicate them the whole day or just be super inspired!

About the neon colored icons, I was just getting bored with all those dark icons and I was inspired both by neo-noir aesthetics and by the glamour & fashion of the era. So I'm very happy that you like them!

I'm also happy that you appreciate the chiaroscuro ones, because, as I said, I just love this technique and the icons made in this style.

Thank you so much for all your praises and I really hope I can enter again in the future: your words really helped! Gah, the next challenge seems so creative and interesting!
